As a wireline broadband player, Excitel started its operations in Delhi NCR and later expanded its services to Hyderabad. Since its inception a few years ago, Excitel has scaled very fast with 1,000 employees and 3 lac users for its broadband services.

Being a CAPEX-light organization, Excitel was looking for an infrastructure provider to run data centre operations. Here is how Excitel found STT GDC India to be an exemplary partner in infrastructure operations.

Challenge

100% uptime, extreme security

For any broadband company, setting up the initial infrastructure requires high levels of capital expenditure. Excitel aimed to focus its investments on operational costs and not on infrastructure CAPEX, which was a major challenge.

Solution

A professional datacentre service provider

Excitel leveraged STT GDC India's world-class infrastructure. The broadband company moved its network operations centre (NOC) to STT GDC India’s facilities in Delhi (STT Delhi DC 1 and STT Delhi DC 3).

Benefits

High uptime, no capex, optimized costs

Leveraging STT GDC India's data centre facilities, Excitel saved time, CAPEX and reduced operational complexity. Not having to worry about infrastructure scalability, Excitel achieved rapid growth in customer acquisition for its broadband services.

Why Excitel decided to outsource the IT Infrastructure

Being a CAPEX-light organization, Excitel faced challenges to set up own infrastructure to run its broadband operations as it requires high capital expenditure.

In the past, broadband players had to set up their own infrastructure, right from digging streets to laying fiber cables, and to building data centres. While this was the norm earlier, as a new entrant in the broadband market, Excitel decided to focus solely on the operations and outsourced the IT infrastructure to STT GDC India.

Excitel’s Co-founder & Director - Vivek Raina, explains the infrastructure costs associated in setting up the in-house IT infrastructure for broadband companies. “Traditionally, the wireline broadband industry has been highly CAPEX intensive, requiring companies in the past to run network operations centres (NOCs) and data centres. Excitel has been a CAPEX-light company and we decided to invest money in operations, where we have our specific forte,” says Raina.

Among all the data centre providers, Excitel zeroed in on STT GDC India and moved its network operations centre (NOC) to STT Delhi DC 1 and STT Delhi DC 3 facilities. “For a broadband player, the heart of the network is the NOC. What we did was we looked at STT GDC India and shifted our NOC to their facilities. We brought our fibre connectivity to those specific centres. STT GDC India had the whereabouts, the know-how and the scale to work with us. They showed interest in scaling as fast as we were,” explains Vivek Raina.

Partnering with STT GDC India: A winning strategy for Excitel

Excitel’s decision of outsourcing its IT turned out to be fruitful as STT GDC India helped Excitel to focus on what it was good at, which is operations, resulting in rapid growth for the broadband company.

As STT GDC India is one of the few data centres in India which adheres to global quality standards, Excitel leveraged their capability to scale up the operations according to their demands.

“Here we got a place with STT GDC India, which has all the world class infrastructure already built in, with power backups and top security. This helped us immensely in the sense that had we done it ourselves, it would have taken huge resources to build the infrastructure. This would have included acquiring real estate and then converting that into a data centre, leading to immense amount of time, money and resources,” he said.

The partnership with STT GDC India has turned out to be extremely valuable for Excitel, wherein it supported the growth demands and provided solutions to various infrastructural challenges.

Vivek Raina further elaborates on their partnership with STT GDC India and how it benefited them to scale, without having to worry about investments in infrastructure. “They always come up with solutions whenever we have issues or demands to scale our growth. The fact that they are quite responsive to our needs makes STT GDC India and Excitel a winning combination, helping us to focus on what we are good at,” added Raina
